DOG GROOMING
Louie the Bichon's transformation from scruffy pup to Posh Pet.
Louie came to us recently in a little bit of a state with the owner unhappy with his previous groomer. He had only been groomed four weeks ago and came back in more of a mess than when he went in with tangles, uneven trim and ears full of wax and hair, with her resorting to trimming areas herself once home, so we went to work transforming him into a handsome, sweet-smelling boy. The owner requested an easy to manage short trim with a mohawk-style head with some blue spray through it. Here are some pictures First picture - Louie before bath and brush-through. His coat was full of tangles and uneven areas. Second picture - after having a thorough brush-through, shampoo and blow-dry. Louie's back legs were twice as long as the front, one ear was longer than the other, and had a large amount of hair and wax plugging his ear canals. Third picture - after being clipped, scissored and styled going home happy with an ecstatic owner, looking very smart indeed. Please note that unless requested, Bichons are usually groomed with the traditional bell-shaped head, but with our experience and expertise the sky's the limit when it comes to individual style requests. |
OUR GROOMING PROCEDURE
This is a general guide to our full dog groom procedure. When your pet arrives we will check him or her thoroughly to make note of any lumps, bumps or warts. We then allow your dog access to our garden in case they need to relieve themselves and to allow them to acclimatise to being with us. There's nothing worse than a poor dog with a full bladder being put straight into the bath.
We start with a thorough brush through to remove excess dirt, dead hair and tangles, and also check ears for excess hair and give them a good wipe out, and then move on to bathing. We bath all our dogs in warm water direct from a shower with specifically designed professional shampoos and conditioners including whitening, sensitive skin, and our favourite "Dirty Dog" for really mucky pups. Generally speaking we shampoo your dog twice and then condition at the end. Glands if they need expressing will be done so whilst being bathed.

We move onto drying, starting with a good towel rub-down, and then we use a special high-velocity drier which helps shed excess water on the dog's coat, and also providing a stimulating massage. We then either hand-dry your pet or preferably use our drier cabin. We prefer this method to stand drying as a lot of elderly and nervous dogs prefer to lay down and relax in the cabin rather than being stood up, sat down, etc. We use the best in the industry which is thermostatically controlled to stay around body temperature and no higher so there is no risk of over-heating.
A couple of times throughout the drying procedure we thoroughly brush out your dog's coat, allowing for a quicker dry and that lovely fluffed-up look. Once dried we usually give the dogs access out in the yard to relieve themselves and then allow them to rest for twenty minutes or so. We find this beneficial as the dogs are relaxed - there's nothing worse than a dog being rushed through in a couple of hours and going home exhausted.

We then go on to clipping and styling your dog to breed standard or to your own requirements, which usually takes between 1-2 hours. Your pets nails are trimmed last as most dogs don't enjoy this and we've found doing the nails at the beginning will upset the dog for the duration of the groom. And then a finally spray of doggy cologne and he or she is ready to go home.
We have a policy not to stress or hurt animals in our care during grooming and your pets safety is paramount.
